What is StaffUp ASAP?

StaffUp ASAP is an accelerated online training program designed to help Vocational rehabilitation (VR) professionals, and VR partners build... professionals build foundational skills, confidence, and practical tools to support people with disabilities in finding and maintaining meaningful employment.

Who is the training for?

Each track has a specific audience. No prior experience in vocational rehabilitation is required for any of the tracks.

VR Track

Designed for Vocational Rehabilitation professionals working in public VR agencies, this 15-week, fully virtual course supports both new staff entering the field and experienced professionals looking to advance their careers. While the curriculum focuses on building foundational knowledge and professional growth, it also serves as a valuable refresher for seasoned VR staff. Available now.

Community Resource Provider Track

For service providers who frequently partner and work with Vocational Rehabilitation. For example:

  • Employment/job placement specialists
  • Benefits specialists
  • Independent Living Center staff
  • Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) providers

In development to begin January 2027

WIOA Track

For WIOA partners who frequently partner and work with Vocational Rehabilitation. For example:

  • American Job Center staff
  • Workforce Development Board members
  • Workforce system partners
  • Program administrators and managers
  • Other professionals who work across agencies to support employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities

In development, will be available late 2027/early 2028.

Schedule

StaffUp ASAP is an online professional development program designed for Vocational Rehabilitation professionals. Most training tracks are delivered in a semi-asynchronous, cohort-based format with set start and end dates.

The VR Track and Community Provider Track each have their own training schedules, which include upcoming cohort dates, registration periods, and application deadlines.

The WIOA Partner Track is available on-demand, allowing participants to complete the training at their own pace.

What topics are covered?

The VR Track is organized into five learning domains:

  • Foundations of Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Characteristics and Adjustment to Disability
  • Consultation and Counseling
  • Career Guidance
  • Caseload Management

The other tracks are in development and will cover similar topics, developed specifically for the audience.

How is the training delivered?

All training is fully online. The VR Track includes interactive lessons, supplemental podcasts, videos, applied activities, discussions, and real-world scenarios. Weekly due dates help participants stay on track. The Community Provider and WIOA Partner Tracks are in development.

How long does the program take?

  • The VR Partner Track runs 15 weeks and requires approximately 3 hours per week on average.
  • The Community Partner Track is estimated to be 8 weeks long.
  • The WIOA Partner Track will be substantially shorter.

What is the cost?

The program is currently funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, so there is no cost to participants or agencies during the grant period.

Will I earn a credential, certificate, or CRC credits?

Yes, digital badges and CRC credits are available for The VR Partner Track. Digital badges are provided for each domain, and participants who complete all domains receive the Vocational Rehabilitation Essentials Certificate. 26 CRC credits are provided for completing the course.

We’re currently working on how the StaffUp ASAP badges could tie into credit for prior learning (CPL) possibly toward a master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling. This feature will be coming soon. Please subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated on any changes!

Is the training accessible?

Yes. Courses include accessibility features such as captions, transcripts, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader support. A screen reader expert has created instructions specifically for those who use screen readers.
